180 degree spin <> Worn CV Joint - any link?
Hope I'm worrying over nothing but....
(note this is not in my A6 but my Honda Civic Aerodeck)
I've had a clicking CV joint for a few weeks now, normally only audible at low speed turns but in the past few days is apparent more often - am looking for a joint already to get this sorted.
This morning I did a 180 spin on a roundabout at about 35mph - front end lost all traction then trunk came round to meet me - luckily no-one hit me, no obvious damage. I was half expecting to see a problem with the axleshaft/joint but all seemed in order. It had been raining fairly hard this morning and there was some surface water but nothing major. I took off to a parking lot to test out drivetrain on full lock both directions and apart from clicking joint, no grip problems.
I've got to drive 250 highway miles tomorrow and I am hoping this was just a coincidence but wouldn't like to meet any similar traction problems at high speed.
My tyres are all very good, car is in good nick, just passed its MOT - this was my first time spin so would it just be a freak (greasy road, wet conditions?) accident? Naturally I am wary of the same thing happening again (and have more rain on the way).
Appreciate any advice...thanks
