1988 80 Quattro Transmission + V8
I am wondering a few things about the 1988 Audi 80 Quattro 5 Speed transmission:
-How durable is it under normal use (stock motor)?
-What is the input spline diameter, count, length?
-How much torque realistically can the transmission (including front diff) support?
-How much does the transmission assembly weigh?
Thanks. I know not all of these questions will be answered, but what ever I can get is much appreciated. I am contemplating eventually putting a SBF behind this tranny if it can support it without detonating. I am not planning on doing clutch dumps and the like, but I will get on it.

so you want to put V8 in, me too. It be easier to use V8's tranny, not the 5cyl tranny and just make coustum drive shaft.
I would think 5 cyl tranny can support up to 200-250HP.
in Tq I would think 300ftlb
tranny should be in the area of 50kg dry.

dont sacralige the audi, it be stupid to put 5.0 mustand engine into audi. You will make the front a lot heavier, heavier that it is now. and it will not push as much power as high efficiency european engenes.

Thanks for the advice. It is not going into an Audi. The entire drivetrain is going to be transplanted into another car. Just FYI the small block ford weighs 420lbs. It is not heavy. Doubt it would add to the weight of an Audi. In fact Audi states their 4.2L V8 weighs 255kg = 561lbs

The engine will be pushing alot more power than the I5 130hp that is already in it so I am happy. I can build an aftermarket block 302 to 1000hp NA on stock displacement so I don't know what you mean about efficency, but that is besides the point. I am only aiming for the 400hp mark eventually with 400lbft.
In any case can anyone else comment about the strength of the transmission?
