i tried to put my car through emissions in portland, oregon yesterday and the code p0420 came up for catalyst system efficiency below threshold (bank 1). i was wondering if directly replacing the cat converter would be enough to make the error code go away? i found one on ebay for $94...

 

I found a broken "breather" tube off the oil filter block that after replace got rid of my p0420. Just was my situation..
