Default 2006 A4 falls on it's face

So I'm looking to purchase my first Audi and test drove one tonight. The car is immaculate, black with black leather. Drove around town no problem, decided to take it on the interstate and get into it a little. As I'm merging the car is accelerating great then at 60 it just falls on it's face. I got my foot on the floor and it is just stuck at 60. So I let off and it returned to 'normal' and would accelerate at partial throttle. I decided then to try dropping it into Sport mode on the trans and it did the same thing at WOT. The 1 mph was flashing but I read on here that is just a speed warning. After driving around town I realized it will fall on its face at almost any speed if you try to go WOT. Is this a common problem? What else should I have my eye on? I saw about the cam follower and will address that if I do end up purchasing. Until then the dealer is taking it to a local mechanic to try to remedy the issue. Any input is appreciated and hope this is a simple fix. Sorry if this has been touched on previously but didn't really know what to search for. Thanks
