I thought my post was pretty clear-No, I'm not unhappy with the dealer. I just bought a new car and have a problem-posted to see if anyone else had a similar or re-occuring problem. That's the point of my post- if you have no knowledge of this issue then help someone that needs it. That's what this forum is for- right?

Default Sensor issue

The problem is apparently with a sendor under the back deck that lifts up when the roof is retracted and then closes tightly. What happens is the roof will try to open but the back deck doesn't causing a binding situation. According to the dealer, it was hard to troubleshoot.

Yes cabriolet cars have issues with both sensors in the back of the top as well as the switch. They are pretty touchy things, the dealer should have caught the problem in the PDI (pre delivery inspection)

PDI won't catch a problem that happens 4,000 miles later. Anyways, I have replaced a couple top position sensors (the ones on the actual top frame) that the locating pegs broke off and then the sensor moves out of position. The switch on the storage compartment in the trunk is also know to fail. When that happens, the top will try to retract even if the storage compartment is in the "up" position. That will cause very bad things to happen! From personal experience I can agree with auditech79, they are very touchy!

Are you insane? The PDI is done when the car reaches the dealer, i have never done a PDI inspection with more than 10 miles on the odometer, so i don't know what you're talking about there. Thats why they call it the PRE DELIEVERY INSPECTION, its before the customer gets the car, it won't be operational before the PDI, its still in transport mode and what not.
As for you're problem, its covered under warranty so i don't see the point of this post besides you want to report that dealers ignorance of the PDI inspection.

Maybe I misunderstood you or you misunderstood my reply, I apologize either way. What I meant was, if it didn't quit working until the car had 4,000 miles, PDI wouldn't have caught a problem because it wasn't broken then. You said the top concern should have been caught at PDI. As I said, might have misunderstood what you meant. I'm new here and certainley don't want to start off on the wrong foot and don't wish to step on anyones toes!

I have this exact same problem with my A4 Cabrio (but mine's an '06 model). The roof opens, as does the hatch with roof box but as the roof should fold into the roof box it stops (I can hear the whine from a motor)...

It's booked into my dealership tomorrow morning for some fault finding, it seems like it might be a bit of a common problem - it seems to be intermittent for me and is worst when the car has been stood in direct sunshine for a while... (which is exactly the time you would like to lower your roof!)
