Hello,

I am wavering on purchasing a 1988 5000S Quattro. The car has 195K on it and is a 5-Speed. The previous owner had it for 5 years and is asking $700. He says the car has had a gas tank leak that he has plugged in the past, but it is now leaking again.

I am looking for a car that I can only drive in the winter (or just when it snows) and one that I can attach a hitch to so that I may tow a small trailer.

I do most of the work on my cars myself and I usually find a way to figure out problems that I have not dealt with before.

I have never dealt with replacing a gas tank before. My first thought is to find out how much a used tank will be from local junkyards.

My question is, how difficult is it to replace a gas tank and how much would a used tank run me.
