Default 98 A4 stalled, wont turn over!! feedback please

98 A4 1.8t . Just stalled driving down the road. No sputter the engine just quit. Wont turn over. Almost wants to starts then just seems like there is no fuel, or spark. Thought mabey it vapor locked, not the case. Leads me to believe its a sensor that went out. Not sure, havent brought it home yet. But would like a little feedback so when I do bring it back I have some ideas to look at.

So it actually turns over but wont start?

First thing to do is listen for the fuel pump, if you dont hear it, look at the fuse. If good, prolly a bad pump but check the power to it first to rule out a wire problem. If thats all ok, check fuel pressure. If low, look at the filter first, but prolly a bad pump.

I dont think its a filter, it didnt do the sputter before, just simply quit. Turns over just isnt starting. At first it would almost start, the engine would sputter. Soon as I get it up to the house I will check out the pump, relay, fuses and wiring. Hope its just simple fix so I dont have to wait on parts

So first troubleshoot.... found my fuel pump fuse blown. Replace it and see if it pops again. If it does then I am searching for a fault in the wiring. Touch back and let you know what happens

Could be... but prolly the connections at the pump, or more likely, the pump is going and pulling extra current.

Gonna check on the pump connections what not. Have to borrow a tester to check the wiring and flow. Hoping its just a connection like a lose ground.

So cheked everything out, turns out the pump needs replaced ordered up a new one for about 80 bucks, ordered a new gasket to go with it, the old one looked a little soft. In a few days I get to see how easy its going to be to install. Shouldnt be too hard with the access in the trunk.

Oh I was lit up alright. Had to have my face practically in the tank. Not the easiest things to remove. Found a new one on ebay for 64 bucks supports up to 255 hp ordered up a high flow reusable fuel filter to replace the old rust ball while I am at it. Dont really know why everything else on the motor is still stock. Mabey while I am waiting on parts I can pull a couple things off clean em up and do some minor tuning. Any suggestions?
