a4 radio "safe mode" question
hey guys,
i have a 1999 a4 quattro, i bought it salvaged and unfortunately don't have the radio code to unlock the radio. i asked the dealership for it and they wanted me tobring the car in so they can "call" germany to make sure it is not stolen and get the code. this is all fine and dandy but they want to charge me 100 bucks to do so. now, does thissound correct to anyone? is there notanother way to obtain my code? and what the hell are they thinking? i would appreciate anybody's input.
thanks

RE: a4 radio "safe mode" question
thats about right...
charge 100 Time units or 1 hour of labor. cause in your year you actually have to pull the radio out to get the part number from the radio.
techs need to eat too nobody likes to work for free

The same thing happen to me and unfortunattely the only way to get your radio working again is to go to a dealer. They also charged me one hundred bucks. I haggled with them a little and received a free oil change and a car wash. See if they will bargain with you and knock off a coulple buck. The reason why it was one hundred bucks was because there is not too many Audi dealers in my area and quite frankly they have the advantage when it comes to charging for stuff that the stealership can only do.
The other way is to put the 100 to a brand new radio.

still have the orginal spare tire? check the trunk/spare tire well.. there should be a sticker somewhere with the radio code and paint code. the radio code is a 4 digit number.
i'm not sure if ALL a4's have this, but as far as i know, everyone I've told has found it and saved them money!
