RE: a4 xenon headlight problem
Answer might depend on how much you love your car. Easy problem would just like you said, the threads on the adjustment screw have become over done and disengaged...Worst case, the 'bearing' that houses the female end of the adjuster is no longer set in the lamp housing...either way you are going to have to take out the lamp. If the bearing is loose (and just spins along with the screw) you can try to glue it in with some nice 2 part epoxy. If you really love your car and don't want to 'rig it up' only sollution is a new lamp...with the xenon you arel looking at close to $400 bucks.....ever wonder why Audis are so expensive?

RE: a4 xenon headlight problem
Follow the shaft of the adjuster screw down to the gear box (which converts the turning of the screw into the back and forth motion for adjustment.) I haven't checked, but hopefully the gears are visible so when you turn it you should be able to see where the problem is. You may be able 'quick fix' it with some glue or other such trick. If you can not fix it than the only other option is to get yourself a new headlight. I would invest some time in looking for one salvage before going new. ($$$$$)
