Default A6 blowing hot air on cold setting

I have a 2005 Audi A6 automatic 3.0 TDI.
The air conditioner has started emitting very hot air (not just warm) out of the driver's side dash vent--followed occasionally by hot air coming out of the middle vents by the windscreen.
This occurs after the air conditioner has functioned normally for a half hour or so. It is so hot that I have to open the window or shut off the vent. I don't really want to shut off the vent in case it does some damage but it's so hot I have no cjoice.

Sometimes it corrects itself after 15 - 20 minutes, sometimes after shutting the car off for 10 minutes.

I haven't approached Audi yet as I've seen other people having this issue but no-one has reported what the actual problem was.

Many thanks for any advice and your time.

James

Guess what?? I have the same problem but opposite! My heater will heat for about 20 min and then start shootingout cool/cold air. I have to open the windows (in the WINTER) for a min or 5! to get the heater to shoot out hot air again. This is the problem with audi heating/AC when the computer senses every climate factor - sunlight, indoor heat, etc .... UGH!!
