A6 died now wont start... timing belt?
My 1999 A6 has a 142,000 miles and i was told it had the timing belt replaced at 100,000miles. but a few days ago it just died, it felt as if it was turned off,no shaking or noise, but now when trying to start its makes an unusual noise and will not start. i was told it could be a broken timing belt, so took the covers off over the timing belt and both sides look normal and tensioned. so i tried starting it with the cover off and the belt didn't move at all.
Just wondering where to go from here? Are all the valves bent and what could cause the belt to stop moving??

Willkommen to the forums!
you really haven't provided a whole lot of information to be able to answer your question (what engine for instance). Based on the information you have provided, your next step should probably be to attempt to get a wrench on the crank and try to turn it over by hand. it should be blatantly obvious at that point if you are having a pistons crashing into valves issue.
good luck

If your starter is turning your engine yet your belts arent moving, unfortunately you didnt provide much info, check the teeth on your belt t make sure they are not stripped. The next step will be opening the engine front cover, check if your crankshaft gear is not stripped where it locates and if thats ok,the wors will be a broken crankshaft. NB- on the above I am assuming yur engine is turning as you crank otherwise if it is not turning at all, could be your pistons smashed into the valves due to a stripped T/belt or gears jumping on the belt due to incorrect belt tension.
