Default ABS and Brake Light

Lately when i am driving my 98 A4 1.8T the ABS light will randomly come on accompanied by the brake light flashing and beeping. usually it goes away. sometimes it will be on when i turn my car on then go off or stay on my entire drive and other times it doesn't go on at all. i think it must be some sort of detector burning out but i am not sure. any ideas?

Quattro about 68,000 miles

the brake light switch is located almost behind the hook on your brake pedal. Sometimes the switch snaps causing ABS light and erratic behavious of the brake lights themselves. I had this happen a few months back, got the switch replaced and problem was solved.

Try to get the codes though, as they will give you a clue. I had a brake light switch faulty code -so before you get any parts, worth checkin for codes

I agree with SUMZAUDI but if the you can't communicate with your brake electronics through the scan tool your ABS module is probably faulty, there is a repair kit for it though. The symptoms you're talking about all point to that ABS module being bad in my book.

obd2 scan revealed no codes. So that means it is likely the abs module? What is this repair kit? and how does it work?

The repair kit is just the actual module part of your ABS unit, you have to buy it from the dealer and then you'll know exactly what part im talkin about. If you look at your ABS unit, you can see that it splits into two pieces, the piece that holds the connector and goes to the ECM is what gets replaced.
