When I arrived home last night I noticed a strong metallic burning smell. Opened the door and could see there was smoke in the cabin. The display on the aircon/heater went out and it stopped blowing, so I assumed it was a dead fan motor. Today the car starts but I can't get it out of park. Was told by Audi to reset/disengage the solenoid, but I can't get at it. Checked all the fuses and they're fine. Brake lights work fine.

Any ideas why the car would get stuck in Park if it is the aircon/heater that has died? Or is there another explanation?
