Default adjusting odometer on new guage cluster

i read that the odometer mileage is stored in the gauge cluster itself rather than the ECU so if you ever need to replace the guage cluster, how do you adjust the mileage to be correct?? a couple of my gauges stopped working so i replaced the cluster with a used one i found at a junkyard but my car only has 102,000 on it and the new cluster says 157,000. can i take it somewhere to have them correct this? or is there something i can do myself to fix it?

I hate to recommend going to the stealership, but I think
you need to. This change should be documented to be legal.

They can't change it in the cluster. Once the mileage is put into it, there's no turning back. You can have them document it and give you a sticker, or you'll need a completely new cluster.

there are lots of places online that you can send out your cluster to and they will do the change for aprox three to four hundred dollars

but what the hell is the point of buying a used cluster, then spending $300 or $400 to get someone to put your current mileage into it when you can buy a new cluster for about $500 and they put the mileage in it for it. its ok, i was able to repair my old gauge cluster so i just stuck it back in. thanks for the help
