Cluster / Odometer not Working / Turning
Hello fellow Audi lovers,
My dilemma is described below:
Car is an Audi A4 1.8T tiptronic 2000 model
I've been having a problem with my instrument cluster, in particular the Kms needle.
At first it was temperamental. Switching the ignition on and off, would usually solve the problem. But more recently the kms needle rarely turns.
Kilometres are clocking up as I drive, it is only the needle that doesn't move.
RPM is fine, all other gauges are fine (except for the fuel gauge which sometimes shows full then suddenly drops to the actual level- I believe this is related to another problem)
Can anyone provide me with any suggestions from past experience?
Best regards.

RE: Cluster / Odometer not Working / Turning
Considering the mileage recored is correct your vehicle speed signal is making it to the cluster. This indicates a problem witht he cluster. Only fix is replacement. This may also fix the fuel level issue but the problem may lie in the senders or wiring.

I have heard it is not as easy as unplugging the old cluster and pluggin in the replacement.
Apparently there is some programming of the new cluster required. Has anyone performed this operation before?
Any guides or information for me?

Cars after 2000 includeing yours are equiped with an imobilizer to turn the vehicle off if a key not programed to the vehicle is used. Even if it mechanically is an exact match. This should cost .5 hours labor. Usually around 50 to 60 bucks.
