Antenna Parts - Replacement
Audi 8 (1998)
I have been meaning to replace my electric antenna for over a year now, but never got around to it.
In Audi Stealers - Moscow a replacement one costs about $300 and in Berlin about 180 Euros so I was surprised when I called to a Moscow specialist spare parts store and they quoted me less $60 for a genuine replacement electrical antenna. I said I would take it, but before I went to collect it, the guy called me back and said that he'd made a mistake and only quoted me for the aerial part itself and not the electric motor. With the electric motor, the price is back to $250 ish.
However, my question is, does anyone know if I can just replace the aerial part itself as the motor is working fine? I don't see why I should waste money on a new electric motor if the one I have is working.
My Blaupunkt Concert radio has just has its chip changed and the volume switch repaired (hopefully) so it is time to get the antenna changed too.
Thanks for any replies in advance.

I dont know with the Auidi but with my dads toyota camry he had a similar problem where the antena wouldnt go down and he just replaced the areal part(that goes up and down) and it worked fine soo i would think that you should be ok
Had this problem on my '95 Cab. Yes, you can order an aerial, but assuming that the logic in how it operates is similiar to mine, you first need to take the old one apart and check that the gears are OK.Typically you have a motor with a gear that engages a larger gear/spool combination that drives the antenna up and down. That big gear can look as though all the teeth are there but the drive gearmay have chewed the teeth down in the big gear. You can feel it if you run your finger on it, but not see it unless you know to look for it. This happens because the drive gear maybe smaller in widthand not fully mate across the width of the big gear's teeth.Your aerial may be OK and your gear shot. $60 is what I paid for the aerial at Audi. I paid $25 to get a trashed antenna that still had a good gear in it from a junk yard. It would be cheaper to by an entire aftermarket antenna, unless of course you are a purist and want it to be original. Hope that helps.
