Default 'A' arms for A8?

I was told I need to replace all the a arms on both sides of the 98 a8.Does the whole arm (upper and lower ) have to be replaced ? This car has 164k on it.All I noticed was a little squeeking and rattle from the front left. I was told it was not the stab lonks as I had thought. How do I check the front end for wear? Can the joints alone be replaced?

The joints come as part of the link itself. Its not necessary to replace all links together but its a good idea. If one link is bad, the others are probably on their way out. And replacing the others would be a repeat in labor.
