Default Audi kills wheel bearings?

[align=left]I am not a current Audi owner... but am looking to be one in the future... I was told by a couple of mechanic friends that Audis are known for killing wheel bearings tie-rods and A-arms... anyone know what I should be warned of before buying a 98-99 1.8T Audi A4?

Default RE: Audi kills wheel bearings?

timing belt, make sure you hae oil change receipts, i own a 2.8 but ive heard of sludge problems int he 1.8t. wheel bearings are somewhat of an issue, i had my rears go out and i changed the front just incase with upgraded version, and the A arms and tie rods are pretty much regualr maintence at relatively high mileage, all my stuff went cruddy at about 150K miles, but then again i beat on my car alot. these cars are overall good cars and just need a bit more TLC. after that they are your best friend.
