Default AUDI special tools for oil seals????

Hi AUDI Forums,

I am new to the forums (just registered 5 min. ago). I used to work on BMW and Porsches. I bought an allroad (baby is coming and wife hates minivans). I am servicing the oil seals, valve cover gaskets, cam adjusters, etc..(it's a 2003 with 75K - used)

This is my issue...The repair manuals call for a camshaft seal remover 2085 (MATRA 2085) - it also works for the balance shaftseal. There is another seal extractor for the crankshaft front seal, the MATRA 3203. They look awfully similar. Some sites of special tools distributors call the 2085 "general use" extractor. Have anyone heard if this two tools are the same tool?

If I am not on the correct forum section, any steering to the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You dont need an special tools to actually remove the cam seals. The will just slide off the cams.

Hi dankhound,

Is that the same with the front crankshaft seals (damper and balance shaft)?

I have the installer sleeve...but not the extractors and they are expensive...

I am changing vlv cover gaskets, cam seals, cam adjuster seals, and if possible the crankshaft fron seal and balance shaft seal.

Thanks a lot.

Usually the front crankshaft seal comes on a plate and just slides over the crank. Just be careful not to roll the seal. Unfortunatly i have no experience with the balance shaft seal but it looks like any kind of hook tool could be used to pull it out. If those two seals arent leaking i would leave them alone thou. You may just wind up creating a leak. Ive never seen a balance shaft seal leak, and only a couple front shaft seals.

Hi dankhound,

I only will replace the cam seals and the cam adjusters. there is no leak from main seal or balance shaft.

Thanks a lot for the helpful tech advice.
