Auto gearbox 1998 a6 2.8 v6
When going into 2nd or 3rd gear sometimes it goes in with a pronounced thump. The gearbox oil has been changed, with no improvement. It sometimes appears to be changing up too soon. There is no noticeable problem using the Tiptronic.
Any suggestions as to the reason would be greatly appreciated!

RE: Auto gearbox 1998 a6 2.8 v6
I have been chasing a couple of hiccups on my auto gearbox ( rattle like tappet/lifter on idle and pharrrt or slight fart noise on locking into 4th gear and occasional gear thump but not serious ) I removed the sump and drained all the oil that I could get out ( approx 4 ltrs ) then replaced the filter and new gasket , now drives much better but still farts when locking into 4th but not as bad and clicking is still there[:@], today I was checking things out and found the problem " shift cable adjustment" very slightly out[sm=bounceybounce.gif] but in the process I cracked the bracket[sm=boosign.gif] so its locked in place with cable ties till I fabricate a new bracket out of stainless "other is alloy"[:@] so mine will be sorted this weekend.
you might have some similar problem like why didn't you change the filter ( mine had never been changed from new 1993[:-] and it has a full Audi service history ) your might not have been changed "ever" which could account for your problem
long story but gives a few ideas of what to check
