Default Bad thermostat? B5

Trying to diagnose why I lost the heat in my B5 2.8 Audi technician says it could be the thermostat but heater hoses going into firewall next to battery are both hot and temp gauge reads normal, if not a little warm. Coolant level is at MIN mark and even though the system broke open in an accident and was repaired last year, the heat worked then. Just hate to spend $900 to do thermostat/tbelt/pump and still have no heat. Of course, Audi wont pay for a repair even if that's not the problem. Any tips?

Same issues I was experiencing also but my temp guage was reading hot. It was my thermostat and cost me $290.

Hmmm, Anchor Audi in Lynbrook NY says t-belt and water pump may as well be done since pump has to be removed to get to thermostat. Do you have the 2.8? Are they jerkin' me?

The pump does NOT need to be removed to do the thermostat so yeah you are getting jerked in that aspect. But since they are in there and if you never had it done, then yeah might as well do it if you don't have the tools or know how.
