Default Battery - which brand, group size?

I have a 96 A6 Avant in need of a new battery. I have searched the web and found different group sizes for the different brands. It is either a Grp 41 or 48. A grp 41 is in the car now, but that is a replacement.

Are there any minimum requirements for cca? Preferred brands?

I can get a bosch grp 41 for $80 with a 96 mth warantee at PepBoys.

Any suggestions/info would be great.

Thanks.

Anthony

Any preference on brand? I was thinking of going with the bosch. Would the owners manual give any info on the battery requirements?

what is the difference between a grp 41, 48?

There is only like 3 companies in the world that actually make car batteries, Johnson Controls makes probably 75% of them so brand really doesn't mean s***.
The groups are probably different cranking amps/cold cranking amps and the terminals may be in different locations on the battery.

I think Johnson Controls makes the bosch battery. I will check their site out.
Thanks for the replies.

Most likely every battery you find in any auto parts store is made by Johnson Controls. The only battery brand i know that isn't made by them is the Optima battery.

If you are a member of Costco, go there.
Sams and BJs should also be good.

Crazyhawk, thanks for the reply. I saw that site as well. I have called numerous autoparts stores both big chain stores and local stores and they all say it is grp 41. Even the battery sites themselves, interstate, exide all say it is a grp 41. Not really sure what the difference is but PepBoys has a Bosch battey for $80 with a 96 month warantee. I think that is the one for me.
