Default Car won't start or jump, have power

I have a 2001 Audi A4 2.8L V6, i was driving around all day yesterday and randomly i go to leave and my car wont start, I believe i can hear the starter trying to fire, maybe not, and once i turn my key to start it i cant turn it again after that. my lights work and all my other electronics work fine, my lights go off when i turn the ignition, i have 12V at the battery, i havent listened for the fuel pump yet but someone told me they think its the starter solenoid or starter in general. Does anyone have any thoughts? This is my first Audi and im new to this site. Thank You

When you turn the key to the start position on Audi's and Porsches (I'm sure there are some others too), you only get one attempt at engaging the starter. You have to hold it in that position to get the starter to run longer. If you let off, you have to turn the key off to reset the system. This prevents that embarrassing and sometime damaging engaging of the starter to an already running engine.. GRRRIIINNNNNDDDDDD!!!!

Having said that, if you can hear the starter trying hit (a clicking), it's not anything to do with the starter relay or circuitry. It's the starter. You can take it off and have it tested though. That's where I'd start. Pardon the pun.. LOL
