Default Center brake light staying on

My 1997 a4 center brake light stays on when lights are turned on. It not only stays on but it is acting like a regular tail light. When you apply the brakes it gets bright and when you take your foot off the peddle it gets dim just like the tail lights.....I just purchased the car and any suggestions would be appreciated.

Default Center brake light staying on

I finally got around to looking into my light issues, someone replaced one of the rear dual filament bulbs with a single filament bulb. This caused it to feed back through that way.

I had the same issue when I bought my B5. It also caused the cruise to stop working
