Default Center display (dash) issue on '01 A4

I'm taking ownership of a 2001 A4 1.8T this week and the center display on the dash seems to have an issue with some of the lines being out. Is this a part that can be replaced individually and how hard of a DIY job is it?

I think this is called the Information Display Module.

You have to replace the whole cluster. 700+$ from the dealership. The center info display is prone to fail in most of our cars.

I have the SAME problem, with my 2001 Audi a4 Quattro 1.8T.

My local Audi people were NOT helpful and quite nasty.

My question is, what is the difference between the part number for mine 8D0920980Q or QX and the one ending in C or CX???

I have tracked down a few clusters that SOUND like they will work - 00/01, MPH, with info display, 1.8T, auto...but the part number is off.

???

Given some instructions I've found here or replacing the gauge faces is seems easy enough to get the unit in and out. However, how close of a match is needed? Is there any type of programming required?
