I have a 03 a4 convertible and the girlfriend borrowed it to move out of apartment. Once I got the car back, the top wont go down. I am able to put it down manually, but not automatically. The information display says "soft top cannot be used". I checked the fuse and it is good, and there is nothing in the way. Is there a reset anywhere? I really dont want to visit the stealership. Can any one help?

 

Try using your key (located in the glove box) and manually close and lock it. Now open it all the way and use your key to lock it down in the open position. You have to insert the key though a hole between the back seats, pull down the armrest and reach up and you will find the key hole. Once its all locked down in the open position, try using the button again. If it doesn't work, something is wrong with the operation of the top and needs service.

OOPS, i just noticed that i said the key was in the glove box, i meant the fuse box. My bad, it looks like a T with a red handle.

 

Wow, I know this is an old thread, but I am experiencing the same issue getting my top up, same car. Nice to come here and get quick help....even years later....lol now I'm going to go use that special key to put my top up. Almost same info in the manual. Thanks auditech 79. ATB!
