Default Coolant TroubleShoot

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum, been looking for a site like this - its great to get advise and opinion from different people.

I drive a 2002 Audi A4 Quattro (B6). I have a question and I hope someone can help.

Last as I was driving home from work my "coolant warning lamp" went on and kept going on. So I took it to my local Audi service centre for inspection and necessary repairs. When I went back to the service centre to collect my car they said they could not find anything wrong with the car and it may just perhaps been that the coolant level was slightly lower - which they had topped up. They said that I should just sus it out and let them know if it persist. However on the way home from the Service centre the same problem arose - the warning lamp kept beeping every 5 minutes and when the warning light beeps the temperature of the car moves to hot, but then it would drop back to cold/normal after a few seconds and the cycle continues.

Has anyone had similar problems before, if so could they explain what is wrong with the car?

I would appreciate every piece of info

Thanks

not 100% here but it could be the thermostat sticking ( fit a new one )or air in the system which you will have to bleed anyway

took my car to audi today and their preliminary diagnosis is that it may be the thermostat, i will find out tomorrow.

does anyone know if thats a labour intensive/expensive partstask as I'm afraid it might blow my monthly budget
