Exclamation Crazy Tranny Issue...'03 A4 1.8T

Ok, so I joined this forum to see if I could possibly gain some insight as to what in the HECK our '03 A4 1.8T (Auto Tranny) is doing! So please, if there is an existing thread on this my apologies for a duplicate, I just didn't see one!

Up until this morning, it has ran perfectly...no issues whatsoever. Got in the car, cold started it up, put in R and...nothing. Won't rev past 2K RPMs. Just rolled (not reversed) down driveway. Put into D, same thing. Revs up to about 2K and doesn't move. Then, after about 10 minutes of idling (it was about 27 degrees this morning) it finally started to go. Had to press the gas pretty hard to get it to go, but it finally did. (Gas tank is sitting at a little over 1/2 tank, so I know its not a low fuel issue!) No warning lights have came on, all other systems & checks came back as normal. I am due for an oil change, but I doubt that has anything to do with it.

After reading nightmare stories on tranny costs I don't even want to believe that's what the problem is. Like I said, up until this morning, its been perfect. No slipping, grinding, etc. Has 116K miles on it. Does it need fluid? If so, how in the world do you change it? Or is this just a cold start issue? Aaaah...very frustrating.

Any input/advice/recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time & advice!
