Default CV Boot replace

Gentlemen,
Have any of you fellas changed a front outer CV joint boot on a 2002 A8 and if so is there a workaround for the "special tool" needed to press off the CV joint? Seems to me the procedure is fairly straight forward except fot the need for BILLIONS of special tools.
I like doing some of my own work but the need for all these tools is getting a bit out of hand. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
AlbeeG

yeah. you can do it without special tools. basically just hit it out with ahammer. just try not to mushroom the axle end.

when the axle is free of the spindle... screw the axle bolt back in the end until is doesn't go anymore. we use an impact to drive it in. i never tried to using manual tools. it still should work.
from there the cv assembly will be free of the retaining clip... and then you can use a hammer to tap it off.

don't bang it w/ a hammer...

Thanks guys.
Knight, I will be gentle with the hammer. Your saying that the bolt itself can be used as the puller? Cool.
