Dash Warning Sign
hi everybody my names erik and i have a 2001 a4 1.8t if you didn't see my intro and I believe this is the right section to post this is but if not I am sorry in advance. Here is my problem, I was driving to work today which took about 6 hours due to snow and when I got to the first parking spot I tried I had to go through a little snow and when I did two warning lights came on. The first one is just the one that says the outside temp and has a snow flake but the other one was below the snow flake and it said 50 mi. When I left work and started driving thhe 50 went down to 45 and by the time i go home about 13 miles later it was up to 80 mi. Anyone have any ideas as to what the second warning sign ment? Any help is greatly appreciated and thank you for the time.

RE: Dash Warning Sign
Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. Here's the answer to what I think you're asking:
The snowflake shows up next to the outside temp when it's cold enough in the air that there might be frozen spots on the road.
The 50 mi is your "miles to empty" gauge. It's telling you that, based on your most recent driving, you have enough fuel to drive another 50 miles before your gas tank is empty. It went down to 45 because you did some more driving and used up some gas. The reason it went back up to 80 is likely because the roads were cleared and you were able to get up to a normal driving speed. As a result your average fuel consumption per milewent down. Given that new information your car's computer estimates that you could continue driving for another 80 miles before you run out of gas.
Am I answering your question?

RE: Dash Warning Sign
You most definatly did answer the question. Once I went to go fill up today i the 50 mi went up to 225 which is because I added more gas. I had a hunch thats what it was but just wasn't sure. The wierd thing was that these two signs have never came on until yesterday when i first tried to park and had the snow go under the car.

There is a button on one of the stalks that activates/de-activates the HUD (heads-up-display). Odds are you managed to (finally?) accidentally activate your HUD. Congratulations![sm=happy046.gif]

To turn it on and off press the button on the bottom side of your wiper stalk. You can cycle thru different info by using the button on the side of the stalk. To re-set the info in the bottom 1/3 of the display press and hold the bottom button.

Don't get discouraged! Here's the scoop: On the end of the wiper stalk is a little toggle button. You can use that up/down button to scroll through the various displays. There's miles to empty, current MPG, average MPG, average speed anda timer.
If you don't want the display to be on, push the little button that's on the underside of the wiper stalk.
If you want to reset the average MPG, average speed or timer, use the toggle switch to view the one you want to reset, then press and hold that little button on the underside of the stalk until you see it reset on the display.
Take your time and understand it. It's easy once you get it.
