Default does cruise control the torque converter?

I have had my poor heidi (01 a6 2.7) at three tranny shops now. two of the three say it needs a torque converter. In fourth and fith gear (between 30 and 50 mph)it goes in and out of lock up like it wants to shift out. Same on coasting. If you accelerate it is fine, no slips or hesitation. If you set the cruise it is not noticable. Does the cruise control force the torque converter into lock up? Thanks in advance.

The cruise control has nothing to do with the torque conveter, you most likely need a torque conveter though as they are prone to failing on A6's.
