ECU Replacement
Long story short, I know nothing about cars
One morning I had a flat battery, guy stops to help with a jumper pack (I assume he knows what he's doing) puts the leads onto my battery wrong way around, now I need a new ECU. Painful experience yes, trusting anyone else again to recognise a + and/or - symbol again? No...
Anyway, mechanic says I need a new ECU and going via dealership is a nono because of cost (I'm fairly young with a family so cheaper the better)
The only part number that is recoverable from the ECU is: 03C 906 056 AP
Picture: ATTATCHED
What are my options for replacing this unit, do I need to find another ECU with the same part number? Can any Audi A3 1.6 FSI (2004-xxxx) ECU? How's it work. Any help is greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Sorry if this is in the wrong place on the forums, I didn't see a specific ECU area.

The replacement ECU must match the engine/transmission code combo on your car. You can find these codes on the sticker in the trunk spare tire well or on the owners manual. The printed sticker should have the VIN with the Chassis, Engine, Transmission, and all other option codes that came with the car. They are generally 3 letter/number combinations. The part number should also be identical though.
Your mechanic is right to tell you not go to the stealer.....er...dealer. A new ECU price will make you faint.. Check ebay. You're looking at somewhere between $300-500US for a replacement.
