Seems like this is the place for Audi knowledge, I'm hoping someone here can advise me....

I've just given my girlfirend my B5 A4 1.8SE. Coming home today she says its stuttering occasionally in 1st and 2nd at low revs. I took it for a quick spin and sure enough when you pull away in 1st it loses power then picks up again, it does this also in 2nd. When idling it sits just below 1k rpm then dips occasionally to about half that then pops back up again.

I have next to zero knowledge on cars and their mechanics so any help would be greatly appreciated.
