Default Fuse question

I have a 96 A6 Avant 2.8 v6. Last night I noticed a orange fuse on the passinger side front floor.
Does anybody know where this would go. I think it is a 40A fuse. Would this info be in the owners manual?

Thanks.

only fuses like that are for engine and the only ones my data says is the injector thermal fuse but that's yellow, probably don't belong to the car at all if everything is working ok I often find fuses on the floor especially when Ive been to the breakers yards lol

dave, thanks for the reply. the starter has begun acting funny (technical term). turn key, nothing, turn again whirring sound, turn again, car starts up. could the fuse belong inside of the plastic pannel that is on the botton by where your right foot would be, because the cover was nocked off, or from under the glove box? it definitely came from somewhere in the car.

Dave, I think that is it.. What does the fuse do, because things seem to be working okon the car, with the exception of the starter issue. Radio, lights , front & rear wipers, heat, blower.
It is definitely orange in color. I will look a litter closer at it. It has marks on it as if itwas pluged in.
I will attach a pic if I can tonight.

Would the placement of the fuse be in theowners manual? I have a 1996 A6 Avant 2.8

it should be in the owners manual

edit: it might just be a spare fuse and starter issue could be a sticky starter motor or the ignition barrel doing its funnies like ready to pass out

I checked the manual, and there is nothing with a 40a fuse or the orange color.

the fuse has on the top edge 40A, then below, a square with a ciricle inside and inside the circle is the letter P.
below the square it says 32V.

anybody have any ideas.
