Engine rattle at idle on 2005.5 A4 2.0
Hello. I just purchased a used 2005.5 Audi A4 2.0 FWD, Auto, 58k miles. I bought the car after hiring a service in Austin Texas called Auto PI. They did a "thorough" inspection of the car and let me know that the car had a rattle at iddle. The rattle makes the car sound like a diesel engine, it is that loud. The mechanic told me that the previous owner had not changed the oil for 12k miles and that a good oil change would take care of the problem.
Today, I took the car to an Audi dealer and they told me that they would need to run diags on the car for $125 to find out what the problem is. They did notice that the mufflers are too black all around and that it might be a sing of the engine burning oil. The dealer also said that 2.0 engines do sound a bit like a diesel but not this loud.
Has anybody seen this problem? The first thing I did after I bought the car on Saturday was to change the oil wiht synthetic (Penzoil). The noise is still there and it is only noticeable when on idle. Before I fork out the $125 for the diags, I would like to hear if anybody had this issue and what they did to fix it. I have had 5 BMWs and this is my first Audi. I love the car but this issue is worrying me now. Thanks in advance for your help!
