Default Evap Leak - Purge Valve?

Ok. Audi just called and advised that I have an evap leak and they have narrowed it down to the purge valve cannister? Does anyone have any idea what this is? They told me that it's not covered under my warranty and it's going to be $280 to fix. Does this price sound way over board for the part and installation? It's the first part that has not been covered under my warranty. My warranty provider said that no emissions work is covered which sucks because Audi seems to use emissions parts from South America and monkeys to install them.

Its a little bit high. Generally speaking itd be about 100 bucks diagnosis. 50 for the part and 50 to install it.

Yeah, I just went ahead and paid it because I'm a frickin moron. God, I hate the stealer. It cost me $285 for parts and labor. I told them that if that damn light comes on one more time, they are going to be in for a big surprise. Not one problem with my car until the light came on for the first time and in the past 4 months, it's been in the stealership 3 times! You can't tell me that they aren't setting me up and there is nothing I can do about it. What a joke. My car went in there pretty clean and then when I pick it up, it's even more dirty because the kid they pay 2 dollars an hour sprays it with some water. Oh well.

Thats really not all that bad. Just be happy that they didnt find any other problems with your car. Quite often a car will come in for an oil change and leave with an estimate for two to six thosand dollars worth of problems. Legit problems. FOr the most part nobody is trying to rip anyone off. If they did create and evap leak to get your car back in you would have had a light on almost immedialty after you left the dealership. Similar to when someone gasses up with the car running. Same type of problem.

I understand what your saying but it's just hard to believe that all these problems happend right after another. I'm with you on the price. I'm very lucky to get away for only $300. The first time I've had to pay for a repair on my car. I'm just glad I have it back for the weekend. They gave me an A4 2.0T and it really made me miss my 4.2.

hey just as a n FYI, if the seal @ the gas cap is rolled or not tight it will also cause an EVAP code, be careful...

Get used to it. I'm not sure what your mileage is, but when one thing starts going wrong on an Audi, expect more to come. They are just that way.

I just had the timing belt replaced on a 200 A4T. a day later the cel came on. tech said it might be an evap leak and is going to diagnose with the smoke machine. I had noticed a gas smell in the care before i took it there . any suggestions ?
