Default Exhaust Fumes in cab

I have a 2000 S4 only 50K miles. For the past week I have a "taste" (more thana smell) of fumes inside the car. They are not coming from other vehicles .. eve when I am alone on a rural road. Does not smell of oil ... and I feel a little nauseous for a while after driving. Leaking exhaust? Faulty heating system? Ideas? Grateful for input. (I know ... open the windows ! I am and it is freezing)

I'm getting the same problem and I think it's valve cover gaskets. I'm going to try to torque mine down and see if I can get a few more miles out of them before I have to replace them.

try making sure your cars air is not on recirculate.. its default setting should be fresh air but you never know. i know it sounds backwards, recirc shouldnt let in outer fumes, but it lowers the pressure in the cab and it makes a slight vacuum that draws in outer air. fresh air option at least filters the air coming in, and it presurizes the cabin a little so it keeps fumes coming in from other areas. depending on where your exhaust leak is this may solve your problem of fumes in the cabin, but it wont fix your leak... thats a seperate issue, at least this may keep you alive untill you can have the exhaust leak fixed..

if it is in fresh air mode.. then use a light and a mirror and try to find where its leaking

good luck

I dont know if u have anything in your trunk or not? But i had this problem and i took it to get it scanned they said that it was the gas cap not locking properly. It came out on a vag so i switched it and still had the problem. Then i realize where my fueltank is. The dumbass that installed my amp in my car drilled a small hole "just one" into my gas tank while mountin the amp to the floor. smelt like the hole was huge but i got tank seal from autozone and it got rid of the problem. Dont know if that what it is but worth a shot. Make sure u dont have any holes in ur trunk lift up ur carpet and stuff.
