did an online search and to get the report it actually cost $$$$ which I don't have this time of year...anyone know of a car history report that is actually free?

without paying, there isnt much information you can get. i got one on my 5k, because the guy my gf bought it from a few years ago(it only recently became mine) was very very suspicious, and i new that the car was in an accident just by using my whopping 5 years of experience as a bodyman.... Anyways, the carfax thing confirmed it was in an accident, but did not go into details about the accident at all, which in my mind was a rip off of my twenty bucks. unless you really suspect something, i wouldnt worry about it. those 5 reports or whatever that you see when you enter the vin are more than likely stuff like inspection dates, etc

 

don't know of any free ones...

the only genuinely usefull info a carfax gives is for rollback...

generally it is dates and mileage of various times teh cars been registered, whether it was registered to an individual or a company, if there have been any insurance claims against the vin... that kinda thing.

they DO have a "buy-back" guaarantee if any info they've reported proves to be false <<shruggs>>
