It was actually a recall as of June 2000 (and again in May 2001), check with your dealer and see what they say. I mean hopefully whoever owned the car already got it done, but who knows. If it is found to just be an instrument cluster problem, you can send it in to random places to get it fixed. It seems that most of us here like http://www.modulemaster.com
There was a problem with surfer buildup on the fuel sending units which detect how much fuel is in the car. They eventually replaced them with different material leads so that they didn't react and cause buildup.

Well I don't know what they'll do being that it's some 8 years later. I'd just give them a call, mention your symptoms and see what they have to say. Bring up the recall thing if they don't mention it or only mention options that involve money.
