I turned it on this morning and got a high rpm (around 1800) with a grinding/squealing sound. (coming from the front of the motor) that got louder with a slight turn of the steering wheel. help please !!

 

I am sure you checked the PS fluid level and serp belt but we have known the racks or PS hoses to leak on older A6's that cause a squeal due to low fluid pressure. Does the sound get worse as you accelerate straight?

i wish i could post a video or audio clip so you can hear it. but yes i checked the belt and the PS fluid. PS is low so i am going to fill it up today when the fluid comes in that i ordered from my local parts store yesterday. even at a stand still with the slightest turn of the wheel it howls and loudly at that.

i think i will post a video on youtube after i get my kid to school. (in my jeep.)
