Grinding noise at 25mph+, only for 5 minutes
I love my new (well, bought it used, 2001) Allroad but there's an annoying noise
coming from the rear. It starts the first time the car hits 25mph,
and it is ECU controlled since there's a clicking sound in the dash.
After about 5 minutes, that same clicking sound stops the grinding.
My local dealer has no idea what it is.
Does any of you have any idea about what this could be?
Thanks a lot.

That sounds expensive to fix.
If I manually change the car height, I don't hear a single noise. Would that make sense?
If it really is a bad pump, wouldn't it make a noise whenever the height is adjusted?
Thanks!

When the vehicle goes down air is released from the system so there is no need for the pump to run during that change. The pump only turns on when pressure drops below a certain level in the tank so it may not switch on every time the vehicle is raised either. Try raising and lowering the car repeatedly and see if you cant get the pump to cycle on.
