Help Please.....engine surging
I have a 96 A4 Quattro with 111,000 miles. When the car is in gear with a foot on the brake the engine is surging and trying to put power to the wheels. Also I just had a new AC condensor installed and now with the car in park and idling the engine is surging really bad. Normal idle is somewhere around 1000 rpm and it is dipping down below 500 rpm and almost stalling the engine. Anyone have any idea what may cause this. I only paid $4000 for the car and don't want to spend another $1500 to fix it. I don't know if it might be electrical or an injector issue. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Its a 1996 did audi even give another option than the AFC engine for north america. from what your saying its ideling between 500 and 1000 rpm, sounds like a possible vaccum leak. not an uncommom problem with the older audis. one way to check it out is take off the top engine cover and look at the condition of the green, blue and black cloth covered hoses in the back.mine were brittle and cracked causeing the car to have somewhat of an erratic idle. if thats the case you can just buy some silicon hoses from NAPA for like 45cents a foot. anything else you wanna add though such as how long its been doing this and if the previous owner had any work done.
