Default Heres a puzzler--help

Just bought a A4 2.8 quattro-- every time I start to slow down on wet or dry just before a complete stop -- it feels like the ABS is going off(slightly) anyone have any idea what this could be?-- was happening before and after new pads-- haven't changed out brake fluid thats the next step. Is it something common to Audis has this happened to anyone else.-- Thanks

I know exactly what that is. You have a malfunctioning Wheel speed sensor. about $150. for a new one. not too bad to do yourself.. most likely the rear. only thing is you have to get it checked by a mechanic to find out which one it is if you don't want to replace all of em

I had that same problem in my Camry, before I got rid of it (by smacking it into a Jersey Barrier doin about 50, last summer; accident NOT related to ABS issue, BTW). It was a rear-wheel speed sensor, but, since it ONLY manifested itself a parking speeds I ignored it. Not worth teh expense of replacement, for me. Hard stops never caused it to happen, only ultra slow ones at parking speeds. ABS worked perfect in all ABS necessary situations.

Thats it to a tee! Never set off by a hard stop --only slow stops.

I dealt with it on my Camry for, like, 4 years... It's an annoyance, at best. When I *NEEDED* ABS it worked like a charm. I vote to ignore it until you sell the car, or reckit, whichever comes 1st

I am having the same problem - how can the speed sensor be diagnosed? Is there is signal that can be measured? I found a Audi tech bulletin that indicated that the ABS rotor usually get small cracks, and the output signal needs to be checked with a oscillascope, but contains not details. Any ideas?
