I have a 2000 A6 2.7T and I am getting some occassional humming noise that sounds like it is coming from the steering column. It only happens at very low speeds, such as when I am pulling out of a parking spot. Before this car I was leasing an A4 and had the same problem. The problem in the A4 happened right before I had to turn it back in, so I never followed up. Has anyone experienced this problem.

I forgot to mention that the noise comes and goes. It will happen for a few days and then stop for a few days and then it's back again...

check your power steering fluid, thats what mine was

 

Might be something with the DBW...

 

I have the same problem. I have a 2001 A6 2.7T. It only has 40,000 miles. I really notice it when pulling into a parking space.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

 

Try adjusting the angle of the tilt in the steering wheel/column

 

On a similar problem, I thought it was a defective SRS clock spring but found out it was the intermediate steering shaft causing the huming noise. Lubing was done, luckily the noise never came back.
