Default Idle Speed Too High

A4 2.6 V6 SE 1996 'N' 5spd AUTO

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can any1 help with the following problem.

I've just tried to MOT my car and the apparent Audi specialists can't because my idle speed is too high, it settles at between 1150 and 1300, when it's stopped jumping. I took the car to them before the MOT for them to lower the idle speed, and they told me there wasn't a problem and it would sort itself out, the reason it was idling too high was because the battery had been disconnected. What could I say, they were the speacilists. So, I took the car back for the MOT and guess what, they failed it. Oh what nice people. I had changed the Idle Speed Control Valve before they had the car, but this has had no effect. They have since had the car for 3 days but were unable to find the problem and do anything about it. Great specialists!!! The idle speed has decreased as I've used the car, but with no MOT I can't take it far, and am not spending the next 6 months driving the car up and down my drive. I have been told that it could be the oxygen sensor, is this right? It would be a great help if anyone knows what the fault is and how to fix it. I'm starting to think I have the rarest Audi bulit, as no-1 seems to know anything about this model.

Also, any ideas on the best manual to buy, as the only haynes manual I can find for this model is in German.

Please, somebody help me with this, I have big plans for this car, but can't do anything without an MOT.

Big thanks,

Em

You might try disconnecting the battery. Reconnect it and turn the key part way, do not crank. Your throttle body should set after 2 to 3 minutes. Now start. You'll need your radio code. This works on DBW engines.

Where does the car idle when it is cold? I assume it is higher than 1300 rpm.
I don't think it would be your O2 sensor.

Hello,
I have some of the same symptoms.

When I start the car, it goes immediately up to about 1800rpm and slows down to normal idle (8-900). This also happens when I make a shift change; until i STOP! If i have it in neutral it wouldn't get down to normal rpm before i STOP completely! What is this??? I thought it was the MAF, but I have now changed that componentat the Audi Shop.

What else could be wrong?? Do you think it would help try to disconnect the battery. I do not have Wag-Com.

Please help

Arne
