The key doesn't turn back by itself when I start the car ('93 Audi 90S)
thanks a bunch...that did the trick..part was $60...no sweat tearing things apart and sticking it in...that solved all the probs and everything is working perfectly now. however, nowmy radio wont work...i removed the new part and stuck the old one back in to see if there was a prob with the new switch...but still dead...so i must have jacked something up....i was real careful not to pull the wires on the back of the harness, and the fuses were fine (checked the one on the back of the radio too as well as all connections)...other than me getting a meter to check the line going to the radio, any ideas?
I've been tracing the wiring diagram on my '95 Cab to try to understand what could cause this. I think I'dcheck the power supply to the radio, as you suggested. Pullfuse #4 and look at it. Look to see if all the other convenience items are working, such as the timer that shuts off the interior light, if the digital clock is working, that type of stuff. There is a mini-check system control module that has a hand in numerous items, and a relay or two that could screw things up also, but I think there wouldbe noticeable failures of other components. Most likely some less than thorough "technician," and I use that term loosely, did a poor job installing theaftermarket radio, making that wiring job suspect.
One other thing. There is a note in the Bentleys manual that says if you install an aftermarket radio, do not connect the vehicle speed signal wire to the new radio as other unintended problems will result.
alright i've been assessing the damage and trying to tinker with things but no result...going to get a meter this weekend, but in the meantime, you mentioned light timers...thats the only thing that Ive noticed...intermittent but sometimes dont come on when car is turned off...windows as well are functional when they feel like it after turning off the ignition....was starting to think about that relay you mentioned....or cobweb of relays and fuses....
You really need to get a wiring diagram for your car, as I'm just shooting in the dark and trying to apply basic Audi logic that may have carried over to my car. You flat out need the meter to do any work on this. There is a component that I'm curious about on my own car. It seems that there are circuit breakers for the power windows. If these are self resetting, and if there is a load that is tripping them, then the windows operate until the load is too great and the circuit breakers trip, and windows stop working until they reset. Get somebody to scan their wiring diagram and email it to you.
