Key turn off issue

Key turn off issue
Top of the morning !
I have a question here i will list out the details and you give me some ideas on what is going on .
1. come to a stop/PARKING put car in par and e brakes on.
2. turn key to the left as far as it can go ( engine shuts off but electrics in the car are still on , mainly the MMI)
3. I have to take my key out for amount of 10 seconds and turn left again for the locks to engage and the car to actually shut off.
WHAT IS GOING ON? ( MY KEY LOOKS FINE NOT OLD AND BATTERY IS NOT DEAD) IS THIS SOME TYPE OF SETTING I CHANGED WITHOUT KNOWING . I AM A NOVICE WITH THE INNER WORKINGS OF CAR ELECTRONICS .
this has been happening for a while now . I USE TO JUST TURN KEY TO LEFT AND FEEL LOCK ENGAGED AND EVERYTHING SHUTS OFF
