I've just bought a 2 litre diesel Avant with multitronic gears, first registered July 2008. It's struggling to reach 36mpg. Is this normal? I'm an advanced driver so I don't drive with a heavy right foot. I have just got rid of a manual Avant registered in 2005 and that would produce 55mpg.

Is there something wrong with the new one?
