Default Newbie with urgent problem..

Hi, i'm new and have a bit of problem i could do with some advice with...

I drive a K reg Audi 80 1.9 TDI, 270,000 miles. had MOT and a bit of work to pass it last week. (fixed dodgy connection on number plate light, replaced some rubber gater thing on the steering thing (yes i am female), and oil and filter change)

So, i'm driving home this evening when the 'Check Engine Electronics' comes on and then goes off for a while and then back on ..... I pull over and get my manual out and derive that it is ok to drive home.
It is saturday evening, so can't get it to the garage till monday at earliest.
He's running fine, but may be a bit heavy on the fuel consumption.. i think? (could this be because the car is running at lower performance, i don't know)

So i will be taking him in to get checked as soon as i can.
However, i'm supposed to be travelling up to london tommorrow, sunday (about 200 miles round trip) for a meeting on monday morning...

Basically, is it safe for me to make this journey with this light comming on and off?

Thanks for your help...!

this is a difficult one to answer but ill have a go, if the MIL/CEL (engine warning light) comes on then goes off the problem is intermittent and in most cases the problem is regarded as minor (a loose wire/vacuum pipe or something like that) so theoretically it should be ok to use, main things to check are coolant and oil before your journey should you decide to use the car all I can say is take warm clothing and be prepared if something does happen and take a mobile phone with the AA/RAC phone number at hand.

I have seen cars driven for a year and more with the MIL light on due to a cold weather setting the light on particularly diesel on hard starting and I have checked the car out and there was nothing wrong at all just needed the light resetting "hopefully this all that's wrong with your car" to use the car has to be your own choice

if you can possibly borrow a friends car you probably should just in case, but if you're stuck with yours then so be it, it'll probly be fine anyways

If it DOES happen, rest assured, we'll refuse to talk to him for, like, a WEEK, for giving dodgy advice...
