Hi CALI KID.
Just a thought.
Was the engine running when the battery connectors shorted against the bonnet (hood, whatever)?
If not, the only thing that should be affected is the battery itself. Try changing it with a known working one.
If it was, then you may have a bigger problem as CRAZYHAWK as said.
